BusyOut is a simple utility for taking your modem off-hook so that the phone line will appear busy. This is primarily for BBS use where it isn't desirable for the phone to ring without being answered. This utility allows the Sysop to busy-out the phone while the BBS isn't available to answer. This can be used when doing maintenance or other activities where you don't want to be receiving calls. This program also has a special feature for use with the FidoNet program called Tabby (see below).
BusyOut operates by sending an "ATH1" command to your modem at a speed of 1200 baud (it is assumed nobody would try to operate a BBS with only a 300 baud modem). By default, the command is send to the modem port which is also called port A (thus the name BusyOutA). If you happen to have your modem connected to the printer port instead (which is port B), all you have to do is rename the program to BusyOutB and it will use port B instead.
BusyOut has a special feature for use with the FidoNet program called Tabby. Tabby uses a special file called "launch.next" to execute a sequence of programs for processing FidoNet messages. After BusyOut sends the command to the modem, it looks for this file in the same folder it is in. If the file exists, BusyOut reads in the list, removes the first program name from the list, writes out the shortened list (or deletes the file if it is now empty), and finally launches the program who's name was removed from the list. The normal use of BusyOut in this context is at the begining of the list before the BBS export program to busy-out the phone while messages are being prepared for sending, and again immediately after the TabbyNet program to busy-out the phone while messages that have been received are being processed. For crashmail calls, it would only be used after TabbyNet.
BusyOut is a shareware program. This means that while you are encouraged to try out to see if it is useful, if you decide to keep it, you are expected to register your use of it.
